LiT MIX 027 is a dynamic rollercoaster of a drum & bass set from DJ Bungzo of Bristol’s BootybassDJs crew. With a real ear for melody and momentum for the derriere, we love how they bounce us between dancehall-infused modern jungle and soulful/r’n’b-flavoured footwork.
This mix kicks off an ongoing LiT MIX showcase of Bristol’s vibrant DJ squad the BootyBassDJs. With members representing for greater cultural inclusion within the spectrum of gender, race and sexuality; while playing booty-shaking sounds of all genres, pace and sensibility, the crew is stacked with tastemaking party-starter selectors Bungzo, Ngaio, Hannza, Devolicious, Adibah, Boz, Xylo & Fabienne. We are honoured now during Pride month (which we celebrate all year) to feature this wicked dnb set from Bungzo who is such a fierce advocate for stronger LGBTQ+ involvement and respect in the drum and bass community specifically. Yes selecta!

🔥 Light Twerkerz: When and how did you meet Light Twerkerz?
📣 BUNGZO: I met Rich from the Light Twerkerz crew online during lockdown to hatch some exciting plans for the future when we can all collectively shake our booties!
🔥 Light Twerkerz: How would you describe Light Twerkerz to your parents?
📣 BUNGZO: A collective of amazing dancers and DJs that celebrate body positivity and the powerful impact that loving your body and moving your body has on your mind!
🔥 Light Twerkerz: What is the most butt-tastic dancefloor activity you’ve ever witnessed while DJing?
📣 BUNGZO: I once witnessed someone drop to the floor and do the splits and then they proceeded to twerk whilst doing the splits!
🔥 Light Twerkerz: What was your ASSpiration for this mix?
📣 BUNGZO: I wanted to bring the most electric energy and wiggle juice to everyone’s butts as I possibly could. Lockdown has been a time of slowness but it is important to remember to keep your booty moving and remember that the vibrant variety of life will return!
🔥 Light Twerkerz: What kind of butt do you have?
📣 BUNGZO: I have a juicy peach that likes to wiggle and groove!
🔥 Light Twerkerz: What is your personal cultural background? Any specific cultural traditions related to booty-shaking that have influenced you?
📣 BUNGZO: As a migrant from Zimbabwe, I found it very hard to adapt to British culture when my family moved. It was only when I became involved in rave culture when I lived in Manchester that I felt connected to others through music and dancing. It opened my eyes to a community of others that love to shake their booty as much as I do!

🔥 Light Twerkerz: What does a booty/body positive dance floor mean to you as a DJ?
📣 BUNGZO: It means everyone being able to shake their booties and every other part of themselves that they want to in any way that they want to. Everyone should feel empowered and free to express themselves in a safe, welcoming and supportive environment.
🔥 Light Twerkerz: What’s your favorite booty music to DJ?
📣 BUNGZO: My favourite booty music to DJ would have to be global bass and uk funky. Guaranteed booty shaking!
🔥 Light Twerkerz: What inspires your to move your butt as a dancer?
📣 BUNGZO: Anything and everything!

📣 BUNGZO: Big love to my Booty crew obviously! Their booty shaking and incredible mixing gives me liiiiiiiiife!!! Couldn’t ask for a more amazing crew to bang out those explosive tunes with. 🍑
