LiT MIX 023 is a hypnotic hip-shaker of ukg and afro-house grooves from London-born, Lagos-living genre-fluid DJ Ayizan. She weaves with wonderful momentum and flair through baile funk and funky house, msanzi house, amapiano, 2-step garage, r’n’b, zouk and afrobeats... tbh whatever she's playing, we're dancing! From the swoon of divas to the swagger of dons, underground riddims or pop anthems— it's a vibe, not a style.
Ayizan is host and resident DJ of the Mental Jukebox show, which features her diverse and always on point musical selections alongside guest mixes from top selectors she invites from around the world. 🔥 Light Twerkerz: How would you describe Light Twerkerz to your parents?
📣 AYIZAN: I probably wouldn’t. It would be an endless stream of questions probably ending in an unsolicited life lesson.
🔥 Light Twerkerz: If you were sharing this DJ mix to someone you were crushing on, how would you describe it to them?
📣 AYIZAN: I don’t talk to people I crush on. Too much pressure.
🔥 Light Twerkerz: How did you first discover twerking?
📣 AYIZAN: Is it a cop-out to highlight that I’m Black so there was no real distinction between not knowing and knowing?
🔥 Light Twerkerz: Do you have a favorite booty type? Kindly explain...
📣 AYIZAN: One that exists.
🔥 Light Twerkerz: What does a booty/body positive dance floor mean to you as a DJ?
📣 AYIZAN: I love when everyone feels free enough to be themselves wholeheartedly and encourages others to do the same.
🔥 Light Twerkerz: What's your favorite music to DJ when dancers want to twerk (or when you want them to)?
📣 AYIZAN: Crowd types: Black/African/Caribbean = Hip Hop, Trap, City Girls, Afrobeats, Dancehall. Alternative crowds = I don’t really know what the genre is called, but it has a heavy bass and a strong beat.
🔥 Light Twerkerz: What inspires you to move your butt as a dancer?
📣 AYIZAN: No inspiration necessary, even silence works.
🔥 Light Twerkerz: Any memorable times as a DJ you had to adapt your selections to a particular audience?
📣 AYIZAN: Only negatively so I try not to remember them.

📣 AYIZAN: Fun songs and edits that keep your faces screwed and your body moving.
🔥 Light Twerkerz: What kind of butt do you have?
📣 AYIZAN: Regular degular.
🔥 Light Twerkerz: What is your personal cultural background? Any specific cultural traditions related to booty-shaking that have influenced you?
📣 AYIZAN: 50% Nigerian and 50% Nigerian. Yes there are, but it’s just called dancing over there.
🔥 Light Twerkerz: How would you describe your politics? Any particular causes you support that you’d like to call others to action for?
📣 AYIZAN: I care about everyone having their basic needs met and equal opportunities. BlackLivesMatter. EndSars.
