🔥 Light Twerkerz: How would you describe Light Twerkerz to your parents?
📣 DEM ONES: It's a safe space for free expression.. and twerking. lol
🔥 Light Twerkerz: If you were sharing this DJ mix to someone you were crushing on, how would you describe it to them?
📣 DEM ONES: "Hey, wanna bubble to my mix?"
🔥 Light Twerkerz: How did you first discover twerking?
📣 DEM ONES: I guess on Instagram when trap music started to become a thing.
🔥 Light Twerkerz: What is the most butt-tastic dancefloor activity you’ve ever witnessed while DJing?
📣 DEM ONES: I DJ'd an all girls boat party this summer and the whole day was butt-tastic activity. lol
🔥 Light Twerkerz: What does a booty/body positive dance floor mean to you as a DJ?
📣 DEM ONES: It means there's no judgement. People can dress how they want and move how they feel. Just the freedom to express yourself as you are.
🔥 Light Twerkerz: What's your favorite music to DJ when dancers want to twerk (or when you want them to)?
📣 DEM ONES: Trap and Dancehall.
🔥 Light Twerkerz: What inspires you to move your butt as a dancer?
📣 DEM ONES: Music I can feel.
🔥 Light Twerkerz: Any memorable times as a DJ you had to adapt your selections to a particular audience?
📣 DEM ONES: One time I was DJing an afterparty for this festival Sappy Fest and I played this Red Hot Chili Peppers remix and everyone lost it. Normally i wouldn't play that type of music but because the remix had dancehall drums i was pretty confident it was the perfect compromise.
🔥 Light Twerkerz: What was your ASSpiration for this mix?
📣 DEM ONES: My friends. Anytime my friends and i all get together i'm always the one controlling the aux and the vibes are almost always twerking and whining. So I channeled that for this mix.
🔥 Light Twerkerz: What kind of butt do you have?
📣 DEM ONES: I'd say I have a #littlebootysmatter butt.
🔥 Light Twerkerz: What is your personal cultural background? Any specific cultural traditions related to booty-shaking that have influenced you?
📣 DEM ONES: My Dad is from Trinidad and my Mom is half Jamaican so dancing and 'booty-shaking' have a big influence on me and my DJ style.
🔥 Light Twerkerz: How would you describe your politics? Any particular causes you support that you’d like to call others to action for?
📣 DEM ONES: I'm not huge into politics but I'm extremely passionate about the rights of humans and living beings. BLM is important to me, especially as a black woman. I support the LGBTQ+ community .
🔥 Light Twerkerz: Are there any affiliations (labels, crews, blogs, etc…) that we should list/link you with when promoting this mix?
📣 DEM ONES: Definitely. The biggest reason I started DJing is because my best friend and Toronto artist Haviah Mighty asked me to be her DJ. Shout out to #MightyGang 🍑
